About the Series IV.VI

The **SME Series IV.Vi** is a special OEM variant of SME’s top **Series V** tonearm, produced for Sumiko, not an evolution of the standard Series IV arm. It uses the same **one‑piece, large‑diameter tapered pressure die‑cast magnesium arm tube** and high‑precision bearing architecture as the Series V, with internal constrained‑layer damping for very low resonance and high rigidity. Compared with the standard Series V, the IV.Vi substitutes the original Van den Hul internal wiring with **50‑gauge Magnan Type Vi wiring** and dispenses with the Series V’s dynamic tracking‑force mechanism in favor of **purely static tracking‑force adjustment**. As with the Series V, it provides comprehensive setup flexibility, including adjustment of vertical tracking force, vertical tracking angle (VTA), arm height, and bias (anti‑skate), while maintaining a fixed, non‑adjustable azimuth to preserve structural rigidity. Overall, the Series IV.Vi is best understood as a wiring and tracking‑force variant of the Series V rather than a derivative of the Series IV.
