About the Cantus

Simply Black Cantus is a specialized tangential, or parallel-tracking, tonearm developed by Simply Black and associated with the Simply Black Magic turntable. It is described as an evolution of Bo Hansson’s Opus 3 Cantus design. Unlike a conventional pivoted tonearm, its cartridge follows the record groove tangentially, minimizing or eliminating tracking-angle error across the record. The design uses a wheeled pickup carriage running inside a precision-fitted glass tube, a swivel base, a rigid cartridge mount, custom tonearm wiring, hybrid ceramic-ball bearings, and a two-tube arm structure intended to reduce resonance. Publicly available sources describe the construction and operating principle but do not provide a complete manufacturer datasheet with standardized electrical, dimensional, mass, or adjustment specifications.
