The Silvercore One-to-Ten Step-Up Transformer (SUT) is a premium audio-grade transformer designed to provide gain for moving coil (MC) phono cartridges by increasing the voltage output through a 1:10 turns ratio. It is constructed with the highest quality materials, including coils made from 99.99% pure silver wire (4N silver) or a silver alloy (Silberlegat20), ensuring extremely low internal resistance (around 0.1 ohms) and near lossless transmission. This results in exceptional dynamic capabilities and a perfectly flat frequency response. The transformer is carefully wound on over-dimensioned finemet toroidal cores to minimize distortion and noise. The One-to-Ten ratio is suitable for low-impedance MC cartridges (up to about 10 ohms), providing approximately 20 dB of gain and an optimal load impedance for the cartridge, which is critical for sound quality and noise performance. The unit features high-quality gold-plated RCA sockets with Teflon insulation and a ground socket compatible with 6mm banana plugs. Silvercore also offers custom versions for specific cartridges such as EMT or Ortofon SPU. Proper matching of the SUT to both cartridge impedance and phono preamp input impedance is essential to achieve the best sonic results and avoid common disappointments associated with improper loading.
