About the Haut Brion
The Shindo Laboratory Haut Brion is a high-end stereo power amplifier renowned for its power, finesse, and characteristic sound using 6L6 pentode tubes. Earlier versions used two 6AW8A triode/pentodes and two output pentodes per side with minimal feedback; later iterations replaced some tubes with 6EJ7 pentodes and added small global feedback. The current model employs two matched pairs of rare 6L6GAY pentodes in fixed-bias configuration with individual bias adjustment pots, regulated screen grid voltage at ~260V, three 6AW8A triode/pentodes per channel, and Alps 250k ohm potentiometers. It features a custom C-core Lundahl output transformer optimized for high-impedance loads, large Denki mains transformer, large power-supply choke, silicon rectification, and an internal EY88 diode tube for gradual rail voltage ramp-up to extend tube life. Known for a big, solid soundstage, timbral richness, slight darkness, and excellent detail without blurring. It excels with sensibly designed loudspeakers and has been a popular choice, though recent indications suggest it may no longer be listed on the Shindo website.
