The Schiit Audio Lyr 5 is a desktop headphone amplifier that combines tube and solid-state operation through Schiit's proprietary Coherence topology. It features a 6SN7 vacuum tube paired with bipolar transistors and depletion-mode MOSFETs, allowing seamless switching between tube and solid-state gain modes without changing the circuit topology. When operating in solid-state mode, the tube is completely powered down to extend its lifespan. The amplifier integrates Schiit's Forkbeard control system, enabling app-based monitoring and control via iOS or Android devices, with real-time visibility into whether the amplifier is running in Class A or Class AB operation. When paired with other Forkbeard-enabled components such as Schiit DACs, the system provides expanded functionality including parametric EQ and Visual Volume, which indicates volume ranges where clipping may occur. The unit includes a dual-transformer linear power supply, relay-based stepped volume control, and comprehensive protection features for current, temperature, and DC conditions. It ships with a tube and Forkbeard module for immediate setup and includes a 5-year warranty.
