The Schiit Audio Skoll is a versatile phono preamplifier that supports both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. It features fully discrete Class A gain stages without op-amps, providing a signal-to-noise ratio over 100dB and distortion levels significantly lower than typical vinyl playback. The Skoll offers multiple gain settings (40dB, 50dB, 60dB, 70dB) to accommodate various turntable setups. It includes both balanced and single-ended outputs, making it compatible with a wide range of audio systems. The device is noted for its low noise floor, allowing users to hear the music rather than hiss, and its ability to handle high gain without significant distortion increase. Additionally, the Skoll is designed to run moderately warm, which is normal for its operation. A version, the Skoll F, adds features like remote control and adjustable input impedance and capacitance, enhancing its versatility for different vinyl setups.
