About the Bifrost 2
The Schiit Audio Bifrost 2 (current revision sold as Bifrost 2/64) is a True Multibit DAC with a hardware-balanced topology, built around four Texas Instruments DAC8812 multibit D/A converters, a proprietary time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter on an Analog Devices SHARC DSP, and Schiit's Unison USB input. It provides three digital inputs (Coaxial S/PDIF, Optical S/PDIF, and USB) and balanced XLR plus single-ended RCA outputs, with an included remote for input selection, phase invert, and mute. The Bifrost 2/64 supports PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz on all inputs and offers a NOS (non-oversampling) mode that bypasses the digital filter. Schiit's Autonomy modular platform allows user-installable upgrades of the DAC/analog and USB input cards and firmware via an external MicroSD card slot. The chassis measures 9" x 2" x 6.75" and weighs about 5 lbs. The original Bifrost 2 used dual AD5781 converters and can be upgraded to the 2/64 specification via a Schiit-supplied hardware/firmware kit.
