The Gungnir 2 Balanced Multiform™ DAC from Schiit Audio is designed by top digital and analog engineers to deliver audiophile-grade digital-to-analog conversion. It features a balanced multiplying analog stage with four Texas Instruments DAC8812C D/A converters and a proprietary time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter implemented on an Analog Devices SHARC DSP processor. The DAC supports a true non-oversampling mode (NOS) and includes two USB inputs: a high-rate Unison 384 USB Type C input supporting up to 32-bit/384kHz playback and a second Unison 192 USB input. It offers multiple digital inputs including coaxial SPDIF and optical SPDIF, with maximum output levels of 4.0V RMS balanced and 2.0V RMS single-ended. The device includes a modular design allowing for externally replaceable DAC/Analog and input cards, plus over-the-air firmware updates via the Forkbeard system. Additional features include full digital preamp capability with parametric EQ, balance, loudness, and remote control via IR and Bluetooth. The power supply uses two transformers with 13 stages of regulation to isolate analog and digital sections. The Gungnir 2 is suitable for typical stereo shelf or rack placement and runs moderately warm during operation.
