About the Premier II

The Scheu Analog Premier II (also written Premier MKII) is a German heavyweight, high-mass belt-drive record player designed by Thomas Scheu. It uses a separately housed, electronically regulated DC motor and a very thin nylon-thread drive rather than a conventional rubber belt, helping isolate motor vibration from the platter. Its substantial acrylic platter is supported by Scheu’s inverted precision bearing, using hardened 100Cr6 bearing steel, a ceramic ball, and a Teflon mirror. The acrylic plinth is lead-shot filled and supported on three adjustable metal spikes. The standard package was supplied with a 50 mm platter and an armboard, but without a tonearm; versions for 9-inch and 12-inch tonearms were available. An 80 mm platter and various Scheu or third-party tonearms could be specified. The Premier II is a manual turntable with no integrated phono preamplifier, cartridge, automatic functions, or digital connectivity. Current Scheu product information lists the Premier MKII, indicating that the model remains part of the manufacturer’s range, although older examples may be sold under the original Premier II/Premier MKII designation.
