The Scansonic MB-3.5 is a high-performance floorstanding speaker with a slim, curved, and heavily braced cabinet reinforced with carbon. It operates as a 2.5-way system where two carbon-coned 4.5" midrange drivers are run in series for increased power handling, supported by two 6.5" aluminum coned woofers positioned on the sides to assist bass reproduction down to around 150-250 Hz. The speaker features a sealed ribbon tweeter with a kapton/aluminum sandwich membrane for detailed high frequencies. The crossover is carefully designed with a 2nd order acoustic slope at approximately 2.6-3.5 kHz and a 1st order slope around 150-250 Hz to linearize frequency response and optimize timing alignment. The enclosure is a ventilated, front-loaded port design with adjustable aluminum feet, available in black-silk or white-silk finishes. It is recommended to use high-quality amplifiers with power above 50 watts. The MB-3.5 delivers a frequency response from approximately 27-30 Hz up to 40 kHz, impedance around 4-6 ohms, and sensitivity near 89-90 dB, making it suitable for larger rooms and audiophile listening with extended, tight bass and natural sound reproduction.
