About the Plus T35
The Sanyo Plus T35 is a vintage stereo tuner manufactured by Sanyo between 1979 and 1983 in Japan. It features quartz locked tuning for FM and MW bands, with an FM tuning range of 87.5 to 108 MHz and MW range of 510 to 1605 kHz. The tuner uses a 4-gang analog tuning system combined with an analog scale and a sliding digital readout. It is well-built with discrete circuitry including ceramic filters, multiple ICs such as A1231N for IF section and HA1196 for stereo demodulation, and a signal level meter using LB1416. The tuner offers good locking and sound quality on strong signals, with a mute function, blend circuit to reduce noise, and selectable stereo or mono modes. It has eight memory presets per band storing frequency only. The signal-to-noise ratio is approximately 75 dB in mono and 70 dB in stereo, with harmonic distortion around 0.09% (wide) to 0.15% (narrow). Sensitivity is about 1.8 µV for FM mono. The unit is noted for its ease of servicing and tuning adjustments, with labeled pots for IF gain, mute, and separation adjustments. While it performs well on strong stations, it is less capable on weak or distant signals compared to higher-end tuners like the Sony ST-S555ES. The tuner has a simple 5-LED signal strength indicator. It is a classic example of late 1970s Japanese tuner design, appreciated for its sound and build quality but not considered top-tier in weak signal reception.
