About the TU9900
The Sansui TU-9900 is a mono/stereo AM/FM tuner manufactured in Japan between 1975 and 1979. It was designed to complement Sansui's AU-9900 and AU-11000 amplifiers, featuring three dual-gate MOS FETs, switchable sensitivity, a built-in signal generator, and a low-pass filter to optimize recording quality. The tuner offers a wide FM tuning range of 88-108 MHz and MW range of 530-1600 kHz, with excellent sensitivity (1.5 µV FM), high selectivity (90 dB FM), and low distortion (0.06% mono, 0.5% stereo). It includes selectable FM IF bandwidth (wide and narrow) for tonal quality or interference rejection, an automatic noise canceller for weak signals, and a high-performance FM front-end with a 5-gang variable capacitor. Additional features include an FM antenna attenuator switch, multi-path detection circuit, twin tuning meters, FM muting switch, Dolby FM output terminals, and output level control. The tuner has a robust build with a heavy sintered iron flywheel for smooth tuning and a glass dial face. Dimensions are 460 x 160 x 310 mm, and it weighs 9.6 kg. Originally priced around 1,998 DM, it remains a sought-after vintage tuner for audiophiles.
