The Salk Sound Salk StreamPlayer II, also identified by Salk Sound as the StreamPlayer Generation II, is a fanless, headless music-server and network-streaming computer designed to store and deliver digital music to an external USB DAC or optional S/PDIF device. It uses a low-power quad-core Intel Core i3 processor and typically includes 8 GB of memory and a 2 TB internal drive. The system runs Salk Sound’s customized minimal Linux operating system and is operated over a network rather than with a directly connected monitor, keyboard, or mouse. It supports music files from MP3 through high-resolution formats including DSD, internet radio, Apple AirPlay, and DLNA network sharing. It can appear as a shared drive on a network computer, allowing music to be copied to and from the internal storage. The standard design is intended for very quiet operation; an optional solid-state drive can make it effectively silent. The Generation II model is an earlier product generation, while Salk Sound’s current product listings also show newer StreamPlayer generations.
