About the Caspian CD
The Roksan Caspian CD player, launched as part of the Caspian series in 1998, is a solid, no-frills unit designed with great care to deliver detailed and transparent audio performance. It features gold-plated analog outputs (RCA and balanced XLR), a BNC coaxial digital output, and optical Toslink output. The player uses a PCM1798 advanced segment audio stereo DAC with 24-bit/192kHz resolution, supported by a super-precision custom crystal oscillator and a two-stage decoupled laser mechanism to minimize vibration and jitter (<130 psec). The analog output stage has a separate transformer and power supply for isolation, and the internal circuits are separated on different boards to reduce interference. The player includes Roksan's patented Laser Environment Enhancer Light technology, which bathes the CD in green light to potentially improve tracking. It supports CD, CD-R, and CD-RW playback with a frequency response of 20Hz–20kHz ±0.2dB, harmonic distortion typically below 0.0005% at 1kHz, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 105 dB. Power consumption is under 30 W, powered by dual high-performance low noise toroidal transformers and 12 fully regulated power rails. The unit measures approximately 432 x 330 x 70 mm (80 mm including feet) and weighs 10 kg. It comes with a simple remote control and a hinged front panel for CD access. The Caspian CD is praised for its clear, dynamic sound with excellent timing and musicality, making it a highly regarded player in its class.
