The Rogue Audio Model 99 Magnum is a high-end tube preamplifier known for its exceptional sound quality and robust design. It utilizes four 6SN7 tubes in a mu-follower circuit topology, which provides a smooth yet detailed sound with a wide soundstage and deep bass performance. The preamp includes an analog remote volume control and a logical turn-on procedure to protect downstream components and prolong tube life. It offers five gain settings, allowing users to fine-tune the volume based on their amplifier's input sensitivity. The Magnum version includes a substantial chassis with a heavy-duty billet aluminum front panel, housing controls such as power, mute, source selector, volume, multiple gain selector, mono switch, and record loop switch. An optional phono preamp is available, using four 12AU7 Russian tubes, which adds to the overall versatility of the unit. The preamp also features a headphone amplifier, though the headphone jack is located on the back panel. The power supply is robust, featuring a toroidal transformer in a separate chassis, high-speed HEXFRED diodes, and seven separate regulators, ensuring stable and clean power delivery.
