About the Lyra

The Rockport Technologies Lyra is a very large, passive, floorstanding loudspeaker using a three-and-a-half-way reflex design with five drivers per cabinet. It combines two 10-inch carbon-fiber sandwich composite woofers, two 6-inch carbon-fiber sandwich composite midrange drivers, and a waveguide-mounted 1-inch beryllium-dome tweeter. The enclosure uses a highly rigid, heavily damped aluminum construction composed of an outer housing and an inner housing/baffle. Rockport describes the midrange units as variable-section-thickness carbon-fiber sandwich designs with exceptionally low distortion, reported at approximately -60 dB in the manufacturer’s materials. The two midrange drivers operate together at low frequencies; the dedicated low-frequency midrange begins rolling off at approximately 500 Hz, while the wideband midrange continues upward to the tweeter crossover region. Published third-party descriptions place the midrange-to-woofer transition around 150 Hz and the tweeter transition around 2.1 kHz, although these crossover details are not included in the main published specification table. The Lyra is designed for full-range reproduction, with a stated response extending to 20 Hz, and its 90 dB sensitivity makes it comparatively easy to drive despite its 4-ohm nominal impedance.
