About the Arrakis 2
The Rockport Technologies Arrakis 2 is an evolution of the original Arrakis, representing the company's most ambitious loudspeaker project. It features a three-piece advanced composite cabinet weighing over 900 pounds per channel and standing nearly 7 feet tall. The enclosure uses thick carbon fiber-epoxy baffles with complex sweeping curves to optimize wave launch and minimize diffraction and resonance. The cabinet construction employs a shell-within-a-shell sandwich of high modulus carbon fiber pre-preg fabric layers consolidated under high heat and pressure, creating an immensely stiff and inert structure. The driver complement includes two side-firing 15" woofers, two front-firing 8" mid-bass woofers, two 5.25" midrange drivers—all with proprietary variable section thickness carbon fiber sandwich composite cones designed by Rockport Technologies—and a ScanSpeak 1" soft dome ring radiator tweeter. This design achieves a unique combination of the ability to play the loudest and lowest tones with the most subtle and delicate musical details, effectively making the speaker 'disappear' tonally and spatially. The Arrakis 2 is noted for its deep, full bass, finely textured midrange, and detailed highs without listener fatigue. Each pair is meticulously measured, listened to, and optimized by founder Andy Payor, ensuring exceptional quality control and sonic performance.
