About the Aquila

The Rockport Technologies Aquila is a premium floor-standing three-way loudspeaker incorporating a 13-inch side-firing woofer, a 6-inch midrange driver, and a 1-inch modified ring radiator tweeter. The woofer and midrange drivers use Rockport's proprietary variable section thickness carbon-fiber sandwich composite cones, custom-built by Audiotechnology of Denmark, combining stiffness, lightness, and damping for exceptional linearity, headroom, and low noise floor. The Scanspeak D30 tweeter features a modified ring radiator motor system with a soft dome, offering superior off-axis response and excellent imaging. The crossover network uses a 24dB/octave acoustic slope with custom inductors and film/foil capacitors, fine-tuned and encapsulated in high hysteresis loss epoxy to minimize microphonic and magnetostrictive effects. Internal wiring is by Transparent Audio. The enclosure is made of constrained-mode damped, multi-layer MDF with variable thickness up to 3 inches on side walls and 5 inches on the front baffle, finished in piano gloss black. The speaker measures 49.37" H x 18.46" W x 32.18" D and weighs 300 lbs each (net). It has a frequency response of 25Hz to 20kHz, nominal impedance of 4 ohms, sensitivity of 89 dB SPL/2.83V, and a minimum recommended amplifier power of 50 watts. The Aquila is praised for its highly textured, ultra-high resolution sound with a natural and wide dynamic continuum, world-class bass response, and exceptional tonal color and timbre reproduction.
