The Robert Koda Takumi K-10 is a meticulously crafted solid-state line stage preamplifier that achieves exceptional audio performance through extreme refinement rather than proprietary gimmicks. It features nearly all point-to-point silver wiring with only two small internal PCBs that have gold-plated thick copper tracks. The audio circuit and power supply are housed separately in sub-enclosures within a copper chassis, with the power supply encased in a 2mm-thick soft iron magnetic vault and the preamplifier circuit inside a mu-metal case within a copper compartment. The design minimizes switching noise using only two diodes and a zero-feedback discrete voltage regulator. It offers more than 10 volts of maximum output with very low output impedance (75 ohms balanced, 37 ohms single-ended), making it compatible with a wide range of power amplifiers and capable of driving long interconnects. Inputs include three single-ended RCA and one balanced XLR, with outputs available in both single-ended and balanced formats selectable via a rear panel switch. The volume control is a high-quality L-pad attenuator using precision carbon composition resistors designed exclusively for audio use, with a simple mechanical selector switch and no remote control. The chassis is robust and heavy, weighing nearly 60 pounds, constructed with copper and aluminum for excellent shielding and vibration damping. The K-10 is recommended not to be left powered on continuously due to internal heat considerations. It is regarded as a purist design with no compromises, delivering a sound quality that is highly resolved, quiet, and neutral, with a tube-like presentation despite being solid-state. The price is approximately excluding a remote control which is not included.
