About the Storm mkIII

The REL Storm mkIII is a powered subwoofer from REL's classic ST-III series, using a reflex-loaded 40-liter cabinet and a true 150W continuous discrete direct-coupled MOSFET amplifier driving a downward-firing 250mm long-throw driver with a heavy-duty cast chassis. The cabinet is 30mm thick and ultra-rigid, offered in multiple real-wood veneers including cherry, black ash, light oak, rosenut, walnut, and a Brittex Black finish. It incorporates REL's ABC semi-tone variable bass filter, providing 24 musically correct half-tone steps between 22Hz and 96Hz for precise integration with main speakers, and a four-position mode selector covering line/LFE inputs at 0° and 180° phase. Connectivity includes a gas-tight Neutrik high-level input, high-quality panel-mounted twin low-level RCA inputs at 0dB and +12dB, plus balanced high- and low-level inputs via Neutrik/XLR, with separate volume controls for high- and low-level inputs, allowing simultaneous connection and independent adjustment for music and home theater. Additional features include an audiophile-grade toroidal transformer, totally discrete input circuitry, REL's Set-Safe audibly transparent driver protection, in-room extension to around 16Hz (-6dB), and hand-built manufacture in Great Britain.
