About the RB250
The Rega RB-250 tonearm features a one-piece die-cast aluminum arm tube with a tapered design that enhances rigidity and minimizes vibrations. It uses a brass mounting base for improved torsional rigidity and a plastic rear stub. Tracking force is adjusted solely via the counterweight rotation, without an internal spring, simplifying manual adjustment and reducing unwanted resonances. The bearing system, while simpler than higher-end models, provides smooth movement and mechanical stability through dual support mounting of the pivot section. The RB-250 supports cartridge weights from 4 to 12 grams and has an effective mass of approximately 11-12 grams. It is widely appreciated for its clean, direct, and musical sound, delivering engaging dynamics, solid control in the lower mids and bass, and pleasing midrange clarity. The arm is often chosen as a foundation for modifications and upgrades due to its robust construction and responsiveness. It is commonly fitted on the Rega P2 turntable and is considered an excellent budget tonearm with a refined and natural sonic character.
