The Rega R5 is an exceptional loudspeaker featuring a dynamic three-driver setup that delivers extraordinarily accurate low frequencies and very even, extended high-quality treble. It uses Rega's classic RR125 midrange driver, which offers excellent damping of cone resonances for a smooth midrange response. The bass driver is a new single side-firing 7-inch unit with a 6-layer aluminum voice coil, allowing elimination of crossover filters for seamless integration with the midrange and exceptional timing without compromising midrange and treble performance. The speaker has a front-firing port, enabling placement against a wall without loss of bass. The crossover design is simple and does not require additional filter networks, and bi-amping is recommended for optimal performance. The R5 is designed for versatility and musicality, with a sleek, modest design inspired by the flagship R9 model. It is praised for its honest, unvarnished sound reproduction, excelling particularly with vinyl playback, and offers a full-bodied, extended high-end without brightness.
