About the DAC
The Rega DAC is a PCM digital-to-analogue converter designed for two-channel sources including CD players, computers and streaming devices. It accepts digital audio from 32 to 192kHz and uses two Wolfson WM8742 DAC chips in a parallel configuration. Inputs comprise asynchronous isolated USB, two isolated coaxial S/PDIF inputs and two optical Toslink inputs. Rega’s design uses a Wolfson digital receiver, a low-jitter clock and separate power supplies for the receiver, phase-locked loop and control circuitry. It provides selectable digital-filter options and avoids sample-rate conversion, processing audio at its incoming sample rate. The analogue output stage uses a discrete differential multiple-feedback filter and amplifier, and the electronics are housed in a custom aluminium-and-steel chassis.
