About the DAC
The Rega DAC is a 16/20/24-bit digital to analogue converter designed to optimize performance from any two-channel PCM digital audio source such as CD players, PCs, or streaming devices. It incorporates an enhanced version of Rega's proprietary circuit and uses a pair of parallel-connected Wolfson WM8742 DAC chips driven via a buffer stage to ensure data integrity. The DAC supports sample rates from 32kHz up to 192kHz and offers five user-selectable digital filters to tailor the sound. It features isolated asynchronous USB input, two isolated coaxial inputs, and two Toslink SPDIF optical inputs. The input stage includes a Wolfson digital receiver with a high stability, low jitter clock and dedicated power supplies for the receiver and PLL, minimizing jitter and noise from input sources. The output amplifier employs a discrete differential multiple feedback filter and amplifier with a high cutoff frequency suitable for high sample rates. The DAC is housed in a custom aluminum and steel case, designed for high performance and integration into any audio system. It does not use sample rate conversion, processing data at the incoming sample rate to keep signal processing minimal. The unit also includes a separate power supply for the control microcontroller to reduce noise. The Rega DAC was
