About the Dulcet
The Reference 3A Dulcet is a high-quality compact two-way bookshelf speaker designed for small rooms and listeners preferring modest volume levels. It features a 165mm (approximately 6.5 inch) carbon-fiber cone mid/bass driver with a polypropylene cone further damped by polymer coatings and a 1-inch custom-made silk dome tweeter with a non-resonant rear chamber and over-hung voice coil. The woofer is directly connected to the amplifier without a low-pass crossover, allowing for dynamic and transparent sound reproduction. The crossover frequency is set at 3.3 kHz with a first-order capacitor on the tweeter only. The speaker offers a frequency response from 48Hz to 20kHz, a sensitivity of 88 dB/W/m, and nominal impedance of 6 ohms. It handles up to 80 watts of power. The cabinet is designed with a sloped front baffle for time alignment of drivers and uses a bass-reflex port with a 45-degree folded ABS pipe to reduce port noise. The Dulcet is praised for its smooth, cohesive midrange, excellent stereo imaging, and fast transient response, producing a surprisingly big and powerful sound for its size. It is noted for its musical coherence, immediacy, and articulate bass, though it may become congested at high volumes. The speakers are finished in gloss black or cherry and weigh about 7 kg each, with dimensions approximately 30cm high, 19cm wide, and 24cm deep. Originally released circa 2004, the Protective grilles and adjustable stands are recommended for optimal listening.
