About the NOS
The Red Wine Audio NOS DAC, also known as the Isabellina DAC, is a purist 16-bit non-oversampling digital-to-analog converter that uses vintage R-2R ladder DAC chips without digital filtering or oversampling. It features a minimalist discrete Class A transistor output stage with no operational amplifiers, powered by sealed lead-acid batteries to ensure clean power and reduce noise. The DAC supports three digital inputs: USB (direct I2S conversion with isolated power supply), coaxial S/PDIF with a Vampire 75-ohm BNC input and digital pulse isolation transformer, and Toslink optical input for noise isolation. The design emphasizes musicality and natural sound over technical specifications, delivering a warm, lush, and engaging sonic character with excellent tonal color and timing. The unit is housed in a metal case and includes a custom battery charger and SMART module for battery management. Typical playback time on battery is 6 to 8 hours, with continuous playback on AC power. Dimensions are approximately 12" W x 10.5" D x 3.5" H, and it weighs about 15 lbs without charger. The DAC is handmade in the USA and is highly regarded for its organic sound quality and refined presentation.
