About the Silver 88
The Quicksilver Audio Silver 88 mono-block amplifiers are hand-built and hardwired in the USA, designed to provide 80 watts into 4 or 8 ohms using only two KT-88 output tubes without stressing them. It features a very low output impedance of 0.5 ohms, allowing it to drive difficult speaker loads typically challenging for tube amplifiers. The amplifier offers a harmonic presentation that delivers realism, dimensionality, and body to instruments and vocals, surpassing many solid-state amplifiers in this regard. It includes an on-board bias meter for individual tube adjustment, low-noise power supplies, and circuitry suitable for use with very efficient speakers. The chassis is chrome-plated with a carbide black transformer cover, and the amplifier has two power transformers with 180 Joules of energy storage for dynamic response. The Silver 88 uses a 12AX7 input tube, a 12BH7 driver tube, and two KT88 or KT90 output tubes. It is praised for tight, ample bass, stunning resolution, and lifelike harmonic presentation. The amplifier is still highly regarded and recommended in audiophile circles.
