About the S5

The Quad S-5 is a premium 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker that combines Quad's signature ribbon tweeter technology with advanced cone drivers to deliver exceptional audio fidelity. As the largest member of Quad's S Series family, the S-5 features a hybrid driver configuration with a 45x12mm true ribbon tweeter, 100mm woven Kevlar midrange driver, and dual 165mm woven Kevlar bass drivers. The speaker employs three 165mm auxiliary bass radiators (ABRs) mounted on the rear to extend bass response and support the main drivers. The sophisticated crossover network integrates these different driver types seamlessly, allowing the speaker to reproduce music with remarkable clarity, detail, and dynamic range. The S-5's ribbon tweeter design offers a more direct signal path compared to conventional dome tweeters, resulting in open, transparent treble reproduction. The speaker is housed in a sealed MDF cabinet with high-density particleboard construction that minimizes resonance. Available in piano black, piano white, black oak veneer, and sapele mahogany finishes, the S-5 combines aesthetic sophistication with sonic performance. The speaker is designed to work with amplifiers ranging from 40-200W and features dual sets of binding posts with bi-amp/bi-wire capability for flexible system integration.
