The Quad 33 is a compact preamplifier (reimagined modern production) that combines a classic analogue signal path with modern conveniences such as a motorised ALPS volume control, digital microprocessor front‑panel/remote logic, balanced XLR inputs/outputs, and a combined MM/MC phono stage with on‑the‑fly switching. It provides multiple RCA line inputs, a balanced XLR input, RCA and balanced pre‑outputs, a dedicated headphone amplifier, and two 12V trigger outputs for synchronised power control with matching power amplifiers. The phono stage offers high gain for both MM (≈46dB) and MC (≈63.5dB) cartridges and uses ultra‑low‑noise audio op‑amps and a dual bipolar/JFET RIAA stage. The unit preserves Quad’s variable ‘tilt’ tone control design while improving noise and distortion performance with modern components.
