About the ESL-2805

The Quad ESL-2805 is a full-range floorstanding electrostatic dipole loudspeaker using four ultra-low-mass electrostatic panel elements in a heavy-duty composite aluminium/steel frame. It is the smaller of Quad's two reference models, employing four panels rather than the six used in the larger ESL-2905. The inner two panels use progressive concentric anode rings with time delay to approximate a point source for precise imaging, while the outer panels are configured for a more linear response, contributing to its coherent radiation pattern. Its design uses multiple electrostatic drive membranes instead of a conventional multi-way dynamic driver and crossover network, delivering very low distortion, outstanding midrange transparency, and seamless frequency response from the low 30Hz region to the low 20kHz range. Widely regarded as a reference-quality electrostatic, the ESL-2805 is noted for its exceptional clarity, natural tonality, and lifelike soundstage.
