The PS Audio HCA-2 is a stereo (two-channel) power amplifier that combines a fully balanced, Class A input stage with a state-of-the-art digital output stage known as Super Digital Amplification Technology (SDAT™). It delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 225 watts into 4 ohms, and 275 watts into 2 ohms. The amplifier features both single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) inputs, with a fully balanced internal architecture. It uses high-quality gold-plated connectors and WBT™ 5-way binding posts for speaker connections. The HCA-2 is highly efficient (93%), runs cool with minimal heat dissipation, and includes an internal AC filtration system called the Ultimate Outlet™. It includes features such as a 12 Volt DC trigger and PS Bus for communication with other PS Audio components. The HCA-2 is noted for its smooth, balanced sound with good low-end control and a realistic soundstage, though some reviewers note it may lack the last few percent of low-level detail in the higher frequencies.
