About the Studio 148

The ProAc Studio 148 is a British-made floorstanding loudspeaker known for its robust build quality and natural sound reproduction. It features two 6.5" (165mm) bass drivers with coated cones, mechanical tuning, dust caps, and phase plugs to deliver deep, powerful, and tight bass with clear midrange. The tweeter is a 1" (25mm) silk dome air-cooled unit with inner dome damping and mirror image offset for smooth high frequencies. The speaker uses a high-quality crossover network with oxygen-free cable and supports bi-wiring and bi-amping. The cabinet is acoustically damped and finished in real wood veneer, available in Black Ash, Mahogany, Cherry, Maple, and White. The design includes a downward-facing bass port through the plinth with spikes to improve bass response and stability. It has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, sensitivity of 91 dB (1 watt at 1 meter), and a frequency response from 25 Hz to 30 kHz. Recommended amplifier power ranges from 15 to 150 watts. Dimensions are 41" (1040mm) high, 7.5" (190mm) wide, and 11" (280mm) deep, weighing 42 lbs (19 kg) each. The Studio 148 is praised for its large soundstage, pinpoint imaging, and detailed midrange and treble, making it suitable for use with high-quality valve or transistor amplifiers. It is the successor to the Studio 140 Mk2 and features upgraded drivers and tweeter for improved performance.
