The Pro-Ject Pre Box RS Digital is a future-proof high-end preamplifier, DAC, and headphone amplifier housed in a compact aluminum box. It features dual Texas Instruments PCM1792 DAC chips operating in dual differential mode for ultimate fidelity, with a selectable second DAC chip (PCM5102) for 32-bit/384 kHz processing. The unit offers a fully balanced dual mono design with separate mirrored circuitry for each channel, ensuring superior channel separation, soundstage, and imaging. Users can select between tube (6922 EH) and solid-state output stages to tailor the sonic character. It includes nine digital inputs: two coaxial (S/PDIF), four Toslink optical, one USB B, one AES/EBU, and an I²S interface for jitter-free connection to the Pro-Ject CD Box RS transport. Analog outputs include balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA, plus a headphone output with selectable impedances. The device is praised for its adaptability, ultra-linear Class-A circuitry with no negative feedback, and low noise, making it suitable for audiophiles seeking flexibility and high resolution. The Pre Box RS Digital is made in the Czech Republic and was highly rated by Stereoplay magazine. It is no longer in production and has been succeeded by newer models like the Pre Box RS2 Digital.
