The Polk SDA-1C is a vintage high-fidelity floorstanding speaker weighing over 40 kg and standing approximately 1.7 meters tall. It features Polk's proprietary Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) technology, which uses an interconnecting cable to play the opposite channel out of phase for two of the four 6.5-inch mid/woofers, creating a wide and immersive soundstage. Each speaker includes one 12-inch passive radiator, four 6.5-inch mid/woofers, and two dome tweeters. The speakers are known for their exceptional soundstage, clarity, and low distortion, delivering a lifelike audio experience with voices and instruments that seem to fill the room. The SDA-1C has a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and an efficiency of about 90 dB, requiring a quality amplifier with sufficient power (recommended 50W to 500W per channel) for optimal performance. The crossover network can be upgraded with high-quality components such as Clarity Cap CSA capacitors, Jantzen inductors, and Mox resistors, with point-to-point wiring and premium internal cables to enhance sound quality. These speakers are robustly built and require ample room for best performance. They are highly regarded for their bass quality, midrange accuracy, and detailed highs, especially when paired with powerful amplification.
