About the SA-Reference

The Plinius SA-Reference is a high-end solid-state stereo/mono power amplifier for audiophile systems, delivering 300 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms and 450 watts per channel into 4 ohms with both channels driven from 20Hz to 20kHz at less than 0.05% THD. In bridged balanced mono mode it is rated at 1000 watts RMS into 8 ohms and 1800 watts into 4 ohms. It offers a frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz ±0.2dB, with 0dB at 1Hz and -3dB at 70kHz, and typically <0.05% THD at rated power. The amplifier can operate in pure Class A up to over 100 watts per channel, with 300 watts available in both Class A and Class AB stereo modes, and is designed to work either as a balanced monoblock or as a stereo amplifier. It provides both unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR inputs with gains of 32dB (RCA) and 38dB (balanced), an input impedance of 47k ohms, and a very high current output capability of 100A short-duration peak per channel, fuse protected. An Amplifier Configuration Selector (ACS) / mode switching arrangement allows selection of stereo or mono operation and Class A or Class AB, and in balanced XLR mode the amplifier operates as a true balanced design from input to output. Hum and noise are specified at 100dB below rated output (20Hz-20kHz, A-weighted), with a typical rise time of about 5µs. The SA-Reference uses premium components throughout, is hand-built in New Zealand by Plinius Audio Ltd., and is available in silver or black finishes. It weighs 57kg (125lb) and measures 510mm (20") wide, 275mm (10.75") high, and 535mm (21") deep.
