About the SA-102

The Plinius SA-102 is a high-performance solid-state stereo power amplifier rated at 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo mode and approximately 460 watts into 8 ohms when used in bridged/balanced mono. It is designed with a very robust linear power supply and high current capability, supporting demanding loudspeaker loads and true high-end performance. The amplifier provides both single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) inputs and can be configured via a rear-panel selector for RCA Stereo, RCA Bridged Mono, XLR Stereo, or XLR Bridged/Balanced Mono operation, giving it unusually flexible system-matching options. A ground-lift switch is included on the rear panel to help eliminate ground-loop hum in complex systems. On the front panel, the SA-102 features a main power switch, a mute switch, and a bias/class switch that allows the user to select pure Class A operation or a cooler-running Class AB mode on the fly. In Class A mode the amplifier runs hot and operates at its highest sonic potential, while in Class AB it runs significantly cooler and consumes less power. The amplifier also incorporates an auto-revert function that switches it back to Class AB after a period without signal to reduce idle power consumption. The chassis is heavily built with substantial heatsinking and front/rear handles, reflecting its high mass and continuous-dissipation design, and it is well regarded for its excellent sonic performance, particularly when operated in Class A mode.
