The Plinius M14 is a high-quality solid-state phono preamplifier designed with a single-ended J-FET input stage and a balanced-bridge amplifier output stage inspired by Plinius' SA series power amplifiers. It features balanced outputs for noise cancellation, selectable input loading resistors (27, 47, 100, 470, 1k, 10k, 47k ohms), phase reversal, and mute toggle switches. The chassis is robustly built with 10mm aluminum side walls and a 12mm front panel, with the power supply isolated in a separate cabinet to reduce noise. The M14 offers a smooth and elegant sound signature, especially refined on the high frequencies, with exemplary bass response and dynamic presentation. It supports both moving coil (MC) and moving magnet (MM) cartridges, with a focus on MC cartridges. The unit measures 485mm wide, 225mm high, and 480mm deep, weighing 12kg. Originally The M14 is appreciated for its sonic performance and build quality but lacks capacitance adjustment for MM cartridges and custom resistive loading beyond the preset values.
