About the 8100
The Plinius 8100 is a stereo integrated amplifier released around the year 2000. It delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and a total harmonic distortion of 0.05%. The amplifier features a high-quality ALPS motorised volume control, remote control for volume and mute functions, and solid all-metal speaker binding posts suitable for bi-wiring. It has multiple RCA input terminals for CD, auxiliary, tuner, video, and tape decks, and preamp outputs. The 8100 is designed with a smaller transformer and power supply compared to its sibling the 8200, resulting in slightly lower power output but retaining the essential sonic character of the 8150 power amp. It operates in Class A/B bias mode and omits the phono stage and processor loop found in the 8200. The chassis measures 450 x 105 x 390 mm and weighs 9.5 kg. It is praised for its warm, musical sound with good harmonic structure and dynamic headroom, making it suitable for a variety of high fidelity loudspeakers. The amplifier is recommended for listeners who do not require a phono stage and prefer a robust, detailed sound with a solid build quality. It comes with a remote control and supports detachable power cords via an IEC socket.
