About the USB-X4

The Playback Designs USB-X4 is a dedicated USB-to-PLINK digital audio interface. It accepts audio from a computer or music server over USB, reclocks and buffers the signal using Playback Designs’ PDFAS clocking technology, and sends the audio to a compatible Playback Designs DAC or digital player through a proprietary synchronous optical PLINK connection. The optical link provides physical and galvanic isolation between the USB source and the DAC, helping prevent computer-borne electrical noise from reaching the conversion circuitry. It is not a general-purpose USB DAC and has no analog audio outputs; its PLINK output is intended for Playback Designs equipment. It is compatible out of the box with newer Playback Designs Dream, Edelweiss, and Sonoma products, while compatibility with older 5-series products may require special programming.
