About the OpBox Modified
Playback Designs OpBox Modified is a digital-to-digital conversion/interface modification kit for compatible OPPO universal disc players, originally the BDP-103 and later also the UDP-203. It intercepts the player’s native digital audio data, applies Playback Designs’ proprietary de-jitter processing, and sends the data through a galvanically isolated optical PlayLink (PLink) connection to a compatible Playback Designs DAC, such as the Merlot. It is designed to preserve native audio data from CD, SACD, DVD-Audio, Blu-ray, and other digitally reproduced sources supported by the OPPO player. The modification consists of an internal interface board, replacement rear-panel plate with optical PLink output, mounting hardware, an ST-to-ST optical cable, and installation documentation. the exact kit version must match the player model. Playback Designs currently lists the OpBox family and OpBox203 compatibility, but the specific retail designation “OpBox Modified” appears to refer to the installed/modified-player configuration rather than a separate standalone converter model. No standalone electrical analog-output, amplifier, or DAC specifications are applicable.
