About the RG1

The Pioneer RG-1 Dynamic Processor, produced around 1975-1977, is a stereo equipment up-dater that expands the dynamic range of audio sources and provides noise reduction simultaneously. It addresses modern recording techniques that reduce dynamic range by compressing loud levels and manipulating soft levels. The RG-1 restores and enhances the original dynamic range, scrubbing out tape hiss, record surface noise, and other unwanted noises without affecting musical content. It features a Dynamic Expansion Selector switch that automatically controls the attack and release times of musical notes for balanced and dynamic reproduction. The unit includes large twin VU meters for monitoring effects and has simplified controls with one stereo set of input and output terminals, making it easy to integrate into any stereo setup. It is compatible with Pioneer's SX-xx50 series and includes a tape monitor loop, variable input level, bypass switch, and stepped dB range expansion (+6, 8, 10, 12, 14 dB). The RG-1 is housed in a metal case with dimensions approximately 13.75 x 5.5 x 12.5 inches and consumes about 15 watts of power. It is known for delivering a warm, analog sound and can also add a 'glue' effect similar to classic mixing consoles when set to the right input level.
