The Pioneer PL-71 is a fully manual, direct-drive turntable introduced in 1974 as Pioneer’s flagship model. It features a sophisticated brushless DC servo motor that rotates the platter directly, eliminating belts and idlers for reduced vibration and noise. The turntable is housed in a double-construction plinth with a real walnut veneer wood cabinet and a black metal base, offering both aesthetic appeal and solidity. The PL-71 is celebrated for its quiet operation, low wow and flutter, and a highly sensitive S-shaped tonearm designed for light tracking pressures, making it ideal for both stereo and quadraphonic (4-channel) use. Controls are simple and accessible, with on-speed buttons for 33 and 45 rpm, and a built-in strobe for speed accuracy verification.
