The Pioneer HPM-1500, introduced around 1977-1979, is a high-end 4-way, 4-driver loudspeaker system designed for audiophiles and vintage HiFi enthusiasts. It features a large 400mm (15 3/4 inch) carbon fiber woofer, a 100mm midrange cone, a 45mm tweeter cone, and a unique HPM high polymer horn-loaded omnidirectional super tweeter with 270 degrees horizontal dispersion. The speaker system is housed in a bass reflex wooden enclosure with a detachable grille and a glass top cover that reveals the super tweeter. It has a frequency response range of 25Hz to 40kHz, a sensitivity of 92.5 dB, an impedance of 6.3 ohms, and a rated power handling of 125 watts RMS (with a maximum input power of 250 watts). The crossover frequencies are set at 800Hz, 2600Hz, and 8500Hz. The cabinet dimensions are approximately 450mm wide, 1005mm high, and 321mm deep, weighing about 36.5 kg per speaker. The HPM-1500 is noted for its clear treble and robust bass performance, making it a milestone in speaker technology of its era, especially due to its use of carbon fiber cones and the innovative high polymer molecular film super tweeter. It was sold as part of Pioneer's Silver Spec System and remains a sought-after vintage speaker for analog and modern setups.
