About the C91
The Pioneer Elite C-91 stereo control amplifier, introduced around 1988-1989, is a beautifully built preamplifier featuring a discrete dual mono design that delivers a very high output voltage of 8V max and exceptionally low noise. It supports multiple inputs including phono (MM and MC), CD, tuner, video auxiliary, and tape, with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and extremely low total harmonic distortion (THD) of 0.002%. The phono section is highly regarded for its performance, still competitive with many modern outboard phono stages. The unit includes bass and treble tone controls with ±9dB adjustment and offers a 1V pre-out output level. It was part of Pioneer's Elite series and The build quality is outstanding, with a very quiet operation and fast response, making it a sought-after audiophile preamplifier. The C-91 is no longer manufactured but remains respected for its sound quality and engineering excellence.
