About the PI2AES Pro Audio Shield
The Pi 2 Design PI2AES Pro Audio Shield is a professional-grade audio interface designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi family of single-board computers. It converts the Raspberry Pi's I2S interface into high-definition digital audio formats, including coaxial, optical (TOSLINK), and balanced XLR. The shield supports AES3/SPDIF formatted data at 24-bit up to 192 kHz frame rate using the WM8804 industry-standard transmitter. It also features parallel I2S output and LVDS differential over HDMI, allowing it to interface with virtually any high-performance DAC on the market. The PI2AES is compatible with various Raspberry Pi models, including the Pi 3, 3B, 3B+, Pi 4, and Pi 5. It is powered via the 40-pin GPIO 5V or an external 5V supply and includes a jumper to control power delivery to the Raspberry Pi. The shield comes with a clear acrylic case compatible with both Pi 3 and Pi 4 models.
