About the P-1a
The Perpetual Technologies P-1a is a digital signal processor designed to enhance digital audio playback by upsampling input signals to 24-bit resolution and up to 96kHz sampling rate (192kHz optional via I2S). It uses ultra-fast 32-bit SHARC floating-point processors with algorithms stored in EEPROM. The P-1a can accept digital inputs in 16- to 24-bit formats at sampling rates from 8kHz to 108kHz, with optional 192kHz through I2S input. It outputs digital signals selectable at 16, 18, 20, or 24 bits and sampling rates of 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz, or optionally 192kHz via I2S output. The unit features a USB port for software upgrades, including improvements to its Resolution Enhancement algorithm, which dynamically estimates original data lost in 16-bit CD encoding to improve low-level signal detail without adding harmonics. Additionally, the P-1a provides amplitude-frequency correction for speakers and rooms by applying correction coefficients to compensate for frequency response irregularities without phase distortion. It supports correction of combined room and speaker effects using an optional spectrum analyzer and measurement microphone. The chassis measures approximately 5.5" x 8.25" x 1.75" and weighs about 4 lbs. It includes digital inputs such as I2S, AES/EBU, and coaxial RCA, and matching digital outputs. The P-1a is often paired with the P-3a DAC and P-3b power supply for a complete digital processing and conversion system. The sound character is noted for softness and unobtrusive insight, reminiscent of analog gramophone records. The product was
