About the DIY Bass cabs 2ea with Peerless 830500 12" Drivers
This DIY bass cabinet set includes two Peerless XLS-12 830500 12-inch subwoofer drivers, each featuring a thick Nomex cone, 51 mm voice coil, and a heavy-duty suspension system with a vented Nomex spider and rubber surround. The drivers are designed for extra long stroke excursion, allowing up to 12.5 mm max excursion, and can handle up to 500W max power with 250W RMS. They have an 8-ohm impedance and a resonance frequency of 18.1 Hz, making them suitable for deep bass applications. The cabinets can be built as vented or sealed enclosures; vented designs typically use a 40-liter volume with a 90 mm diameter double-flared port tuned to around 30 Hz for optimal bass response. Sealed enclosures require careful design and may need equalization to achieve flat response down to 25 Hz. The drivers feature a cast iron frame, gold binding posts, and a large magnet (147 mm diameter, 35 mm height, 2.42 kg weight) for strong magnetic flux. The DIY cabinets should be constructed from quality plywood with airtight assembly and internal bracing to minimize vibration and flexing, enhancing sound quality and durability.
