About the Halo D 3

The Parasound Halo D3 is a universal disc player designed for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts. It supports DVD-Audio, multi-channel SACD with bass management, and outputs 5.1 multi-channel audio via optical and digital jacks even when HDMI is connected to a stereo TV. It features HDMI 1.1 digital output with simultaneous analog video outputs including composite, S-video, and component video with BNC and RCA connectors. The player includes a 216 MHz / 12-bit precision video DAC and Faroudja DCDI video processing with selectable progressive scan rates (480p, 720p, 1080i). Audio DACs support 192 kHz / 24-bit resolution and SACD streams are sent as DSD bit streams directly to the DACs. Balanced two-channel analog outputs with XLR jacks are provided, and video and digital audio circuits can be turned off for pure analog audio. Additional features include RS-232C communication, IR repeater input and loop out, discrete IR codes, and compatibility with DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW, MP3, JPEG, WMA, DivX, and Kodak Picture CDs. The unit measures 17.25" W x 16" D x 5.875" H (7" H without feet) and weighs 22 lbs. It is considered discontinued but remains highly regarded for its sound quality, build, and versatility.
