The Panasonic DMP-UB700 is a more affordable UHD Blu-ray player introduced in 2016 as a sibling to the flagship DMP-UB900. It supports full UHD Blu-ray specifications including 4K resolution, HDR (High Dynamic Range), wide color gamut (Rec.2020), and 10-bit color depth. The player features a 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor and 4K Direct Chroma Up-scaling, delivering outstanding picture quality with superb color accuracy and fine detail. It outputs 4K video at 60p/50p and supports Full HD 3D Blu-ray playback. The UB700 has two HDMI outputs (one for video, one for audio) but lacks analog audio outputs and THX certification found in the UB900. It supports high-resolution audio playback including DSD, ALAC, FLAC, and WAV formats, and offers advanced sound processing such as High Clarity Sound Premium and 192kHz/96kHz Surround Re-master. The player includes smart networking features with built-in Wi-Fi, DLNA client/renderer, network drive access, external HDD playback, and apps for Netflix and YouTube with 4K streaming capability. Its design features a 3D Glass Cut aesthetic and a stylish GUI with quick start and home screen wallpaper customization. The UB700 is praised for its fast disc loading times, quiet operation, and excellent video and audio performance, making it a strong value proposition for UHD Blu-ray enthusiasts. It was launched in Europe for approximately 550 Euros and is no longer widely available new.
