The Ortofon SPU Century is a prestigious limited-edition moving-coil cartridge produced in only 350 pieces to commemorate Ortofon's 100th anniversary. Launched in 2025, it represents the pinnacle of the SPU line that has remained in continuous production since 1958. The cartridge combines the classic SPU design philosophy with modern manufacturing techniques and materials. It features a revolutionary Selective Laser Melting (SLM) manufacturing process for the body, a stabilized Beechwood bottom cover for anti-resonance properties, and premium internal wiring using Silver-Plated Oxygen-Free Copper (5NX) and Pure Silver LW-800S lead wires. The SPU Century is renowned for delivering rich bass, transparent treble, unrestrained dynamics, and detailed presentation that honors the vintage SPU character while advancing technical performance. It uses an alnico magnet motor with a square soft-iron coil armature, maintaining the essence of the original design while incorporating modern optimization techniques to reduce unwanted vibrations.
