The Ortofon Quintet Black S is the flagship model of the Quintet Series, renowned for its precise and accurate sound reproduction without coloration. It features a Nude Shibata diamond stylus, considered one of the best stylus profiles, mounted on a high-performance sapphire cantilever that provides excellent mechanical pulse transfer. The Shibata stylus has a slim, highly polished profile that allows a wide contact area with the groove walls, ensuring detailed and pure reproduction including high-frequency information. The cartridge body is made from a special lightweight, impact-resistant PC thermoplastic material with a durable scratch-resistant surface. Neodymium magnets are used to achieve optimal output, and the cartridge has low internal impedance for compatibility with a wide range of preamps and transformers. It is easy to mount securely with supplied screws and fits most common tonearms. The Quintet Black S is unfettered by musical genre and offers the closest approach within the Quintet Series to Ortofon’s true accuracy in sound. Since 1948, Ortofon has introduced about 100 different moving coil models, and the Quintet Series continues this legacy of analog sound refinement.
